Detroit Pastry Chef

Two USA Olympic culinary champions have been named to lead MotorCity Casino Hotel's fine dining and pastry departments. The former teammates and individually accomplished chefs bring vast experience and unique training to MotorCity's culinary offerings.
A Detroit-area native, Adam Hightower, 30, has been named fine dining chef and will oversee MotorCity's AAA Four Diamond restaurant, Iridescence, in its new location on the 17th story of the MotorCity Casino Hotel tower. Specializing in regional American fare, Hightower has reinvented the Iridescence menu using local and organic ingredients to craft area-inspired dishes. The restaurant will open for dinner January 26.

Patricia (Tricia) Nash, 32, the American Culinary Federation 2007 Pastry Chef of the Year, also joins MotorCity as Executive Pastry Chef and will be responsible for all baked goods, desserts, ice creams and candies created for the casino-hotel's fine dining restaurant, casual dining outlets, banquets and room service.

"Adam and Tricia are incredibly accomplished chefs and we are privileged to have them on the MotorCity culinary team," said Food & Beverage vice president Lucio Arancibia. "Their polished talent and passion for creativity promise a fresh new dining experience for our guests."

Adam Hightower Biography
Hightower returns to Detroit from Waikiki, Hawaii, where he was executive chef of the AAA Four Diamond restaurant Bali by the Sea since 2004. He began his food studies at Schoolcraft College (Livonia, Mich.) while attending high school in Rochester Hills, Mich., and working at local eateries. After completing a degree in culinary arts he served in various chef capacities at private clubs in New York and Florida before accepting a national training position in 2001 with PF Chang's in Boca Raton and West Palm Beach, Fla. A year later Hightower was named sous chef at the AAA Five Diamond and Mobil Five-Star Ritz-Carlton in Naples, Fla., before moving to the Houston Country Club in 2003.

Hightower is an accomplished culinary competitor, participating in more than 13 contests throughout his career, including an apprenticeship on the 2000 USA Culinary Olympic Team, and is a member of the American Culinary Federation and National Restaurant Association. He is seeking a home in the metro-Detroit area.
"With a true passion for regional American cuisine, I'm delighted to again have four seasons of cooking and look forward to introducing a fine dining menu that embraces the flavors of the City, Michigan and the region," Hightower said. "The new Iridescence is a chef's dream from the state-of- the-art kitchen to the incredible view of Detroit. I'm excited to be back in Detroit to continue MotorCity's fine dining excellence."

Tricia Nash Biography
Nash joins MotorCity from the prestigious Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y., where she served as executive pastry chef since March 2005. A native of the Philadelphia area, she earned a degree in culinary arts from the Academy of Culinary Arts in Mays Landing, N.J. Her vocational training includes several courses at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., and the Notter School of Confectionary Art in Orlando, Fla.
Nash began her culinary career while still a student at the Seaview Marriott Resort in Absecon, N.J., and a year later accepted a pastry cook position at Trump Plaza & Hotel in Atlantic City. A fondness for the busy casino-hotel environment brought her to the Showboat Casino-Hotel in Atlantic City, before returning to Trump Plaza.
In addition to her 2007 Pastry Chef of the Year title, Nash also served as the lead pastry chef on the 2004 USA Culinary Olympic Team, and as an apprentice, with teammate Hightower, on the 2000 team. She has competed and medalled in numerous national and international cooking and pastry competitions during her tenure.

Nash also credits MotorCity's modern kitchens and equipment, as well as the creative opportunity, with her decision to join the casino-hotel culinary team. "The commitment to food and desserts here is extremely evident by the attention to detail in the new kitchens and dining facilities," Nash said. "The ultra-modern pastry shoppe and temperature controlled chocolate room is a pastry chef's dream come true," she said. "My team looks forward to creating confections and showpieces that surprise and excite every sweet tooth in Detroit."
