New beginnings for Benares Restaurant

One of the world's finest Indian restaurants is to reopen on Monday 18th January following a major redesign. Since opening in 2003, Benares on Berkeley Square, has gone from strength to strength - winning its first Michelin star in 2007. The newly refurbished restaurant will boast a chef's table, wine cellar and new private dining facilities. The exclusive chef's table will offer a direct view into the kitchen. Diners will be able to communicate with the chef at all times throughout their meal. The intimate new wine cellar will offer dining facilities in the restaurant's new wine storage area with a dedicated sommelier. Benares has also expanded its private dining facilities and now offers five separate dining rooms that can accommodate groups ranging from six to thirty guests.

Executive Chef Atul Kochhar is to oversee an Anglo-Asian menu that will showcase the very best food and via cooking methods that have been perfected by the street traders of the sub-continent over generations. In the cocktail lounge, a menu offering appetizers in the traditional nashta or ‘small plates' style will be accompanied by an impressive cocktail and wine list. An A La Carte menu will also be available in the dining room. Colony will offer something for everyone from lunch to afternoon tea to evening cocktails with appetizers to a more substantial supper - and will launch in February 2010 on Paddington Street off the fashionable Marylebone High Street.

Cook, Learn & Enjoy ...

Written by renowned chef and baker Richard Bertinet (of The Bertinet Kitchen cookery school in Bath) and featuring stunning photography by Jonathan Gregson, Cook, Learn & Enjoy will be published by Kyle Cathie on 29th April 2010 (priced at £19.99 including DVD). Cook contains a collection of recipes including soups, salads, fish dishes, meat dishes and desserts that are designed to teach essential cooking techniques that will instill confidence and deepen the reader's understanding of food and cooking in general. Richard's unique approach makes the slavish following of recipes a thing of the past and instead encourages readers to make their own variations of existing recipes and even create new ones. His philosophy seeks to put the enjoyment back into cooking and remove the anxiety and hassle so many of us associate with it.

"A tender, patient and informed voice that lets you really know why you're doing something...deeply tasty and joyfully achievable". -Valentine Warner.

Begin the New Year with JING Tea

Award-winning JING teas far surpass the average green, white and black varieties that dominate the market. JING Tea recently commissioned a study into the actual antioxidant levels of various teas as a way of giving their customers clear and precise information in light of the general confusion surrounding this area of research. JING is the only tea company to have tested the specific batches of tea they are currently selling.

Pre-Rain Jun Shan Silver Needle Yellow Tea was shown to have the highest level of EGCG, which is the most abundant and commonly found catechin/flavonoid found in tea - these are the antioxidant compounds known to have a beneficial effect on the drinker's health. It is also a wonderful tea to drink, thanks to a lively, vibrant and mellow character that benefits from a stunning complexity and softness.

Other teas that scored highly were JING's Pre-Rain Organic Dragon Well Supreme Green Tea and the Jasmine Pearls Green Tea. Dragon Well is one of the most famous green teas in China and is complex and multi-layered in flavour.

In keeping with the idea that January is the month for healthy eating, Gelato Mio has released a range of detox flavours including pear & ginger, blueberry, green tea, orange, carrot & lemon and kiwi & banana - and because gelato has around 50 to 60% less fat than premium commercial ice creams, there's no broken new year's resolutions!
