Celebrating 40 years at The Capital Hotel and the appointment of new executive chef Jérôme Ponchelle
David Levin is celebrating the 40th anniversary of his ‘grand hotel in miniature' situated yards from the exclusive Harrods department store. This anniversary sees the appointment of Jérôme Ponchelle in early December to head chef at the 2 Michelin starred restaurant. Jérôme plans to respect The Capital's ethos of the finest in classical cooking and new menus will have a distinct French influence whilst still featuring more traditional English comfort food such as braised oxtail. The Capital Restaurant is also enjoying great success after reducing its wine mark ups in September to two and a half times the wholesale value, considerably lower than the industry standard of four times the wholesale value. There is also a cap on wines costing upwards of £100 wholesale to which the restaurant adds a discreet corkage charge. Kate Levin, David's daughter has joined the team and will be overseeing the refurbishment of many of the rooms and ensuring that as one of the only Michelin starred restaurants open on Christmas Day, Christmas lunch is a decidedly festive affair with a delicious set menu.
