I want to live in France for a year to train with a local Chef. Has anyone done this and if so where do I start looking for an accomodating Chef?

Are you still looking for a time in France? What area do you want to be in? Do you speak French? Not easy to find connections apart from contacting the individual chefs via hotels ie search under Michelin, Gault Millau, Chateaux et Hotels, etc. Beware posts wthin a kitchen in which you will be mainly used to wash up and clean and learn very little! We are a UK owned (but French and English speaking) seasonal 3* hotel restaurant in SW France, ie May to Mid October. Send your CV and I can take a look and give maybe give some suggestions. See website www.lasalvetat.com and send a mail to the address on the contact page.

this is a smart idea, I did this 10 years ago and now I'm back in London working at a top Catering agency serving at some of the best venues in London. last weekend I was at an Gibson Hall; in 2 weeks we are in Brighton for a small but Unique wedding but have to come up with some unusual ideas to service this. then back to Gibson Hall end of April for a mayor summer party. why do we get these gigs ? because everyone of us DID what you are looking to do. it juts adds that something extra to your skill list.
these days its easier than ever to do. just google work placement French kitchen.
