Meet the Face of British Pie Week 2010

Head Chef Adam Pavey, from The Goat Major, Cardiff has been crowned 2010′s Face of British Pie Week, in association with Jus-Rol Professional. Adam was awarded the pie prize for his Wye Valley Pie, described as “heaven in a pie” by the judges. The Welsh inspired dish is an indulgent combination of locally sourced chicken, asparagus and potato, topped with a layer of creamy Tintern Abbey Cheese and puff pastry.

Judging the competition were Luca Nervi, Executive Chef from the Craft Guild of Chefs: Daniel Pearce, Managing Editor of the Publican; Ashley Robins last year’s British Pie Week champion, and Sue Tranter from Jus-Rol Professional, who praised the five finalists, “We had an unprecedented level of entries this year and the quality of all finalists recipes was incredibly high, on behalf of everyone on the British Pie Week team I’d like to congratulate Adam on being a very deserving winner.”

As part of his prize, Adam received a cheque for £500, two personalised chef’s jackets, a development day with a Jus-Rol Professional pie expert, a banner for the pub and publicity for himself and the Goat Major in the trade and national press.

Commenting on the win, Adam said “I’m delighted the Wye Valley Pie won, it means so much to me that it’s been recognised and I’m looking forward to showcasing it during British Pie Week.”

The four runners up who each won a personalised chef’s jacket and window sticker for their pub are:

British Pie Week (1-7th March 2010)
